Getting Married at St Jude’s
We believe that marriage is a wonderful gift from God. We would be delighted to welcome you to celebrate your wedding day with us in the beautiful and historic setting of St Jude’s Church.
Support with planning the big day
Your Marriage Service will usually be led by our Vicar who will support you in your preparations for the service and will help you with choosing suitable readings, hymns and prayers.
Banns
There is a legal requirement for the announcement of your marriage to be publicised by the reading of Banns. These must be read during one of our Sunday services for three consecutive weeks within the three months before your wedding. On these Sundays those present are asked if there is any reason in law why the couple should not be married.
If one of you lives in another parish, your banns must be published there too. You will need to contact the Vicar there and obtain a certificate from him/her after their publication which needs to be forwarded to St Jude’s.
There are statutory fees for the publication of Banns of Marriage, and for the service in church. In addition there are local church fees for music, a verger to oversee toe practical details of your wedding, and heating if needed. To view the list of fees for weddings and banns, please click here.
