All Saints Thirkleby seen from the southeast. An enormous church for such a small settlement, but this was built in memory of Sir Robert Frankland Russell Bt of Thirkleby Park, MP for Thirsk, by his widow Lady Louisa. For once Lamb had a free hand, and the church is lofty and spacious. But many would claim that his smaller churches are more appealing: Aldwark, Braiseworth, Blubberhouses, Bagby, and St Jude’s.
