St Martin Gospel Oak

St Martin Gospel Oak from the west.  It was built for John Derby Allcroft, a glove manufacturer, and opened in 1865.  It is large and ornate, though the pinnacles on the tower have been removed.  Pevsner said in 1952 ‘… the craziest of London’s Victorian churches, … an unprecedented whole which is both striking and harrowing’.  The parish of St Martin is very mixed in character.
